Joan Kay Basile

Joan was born May 10, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clarence and Katherine Tolle. She was one of two children with her brother Michael Tolle. She was married to Thomas A. Basile in 1958 and they moved to the Twin Cities in Minnesota. In 1978 they moved back to Kansas City and raised three children; Cris, Rick, and Michael. Joan was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crochet and all kinds of handwork that the family will enjoy for years to come.

She loved to read and travel but most of all loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every Christmas Eve she would have everyone over to her house to celebrate.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Katherine Tolle, her husband Thomas A. Basile, her daughter Cris and her husband John Norred, and her son Michael K. Basile. She is survived by her brother Michael Tolle and his wife Ruth, her son Richard Basile and his wife Kriss, sister-in-law Nancy Basile, grandchildren Nikki and Brian Boekhout, Kortney Dodd, Katherine and Greg Alexander, Johnna and Chris Jenkins, and great-grandchildren Payton, Palmer, and Noelle Boekhout, Katelynn Dodd, Austyn, Giana, and Jagger Alexander, Adalee and Briella Jenkins, nieces Becky and Tim Kinzel, Cindy Stevens, and Marita Magyarvari, and nephew Sean Tolle.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s, or one of the many animal rescues of Kansas City.

A visitation for Joan will be held Saturday, August 26th, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133). The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM followed by a graveside service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens (Same Address).
