Born February 1, 1930, JoAnn was the younger of two daughters born to Dr. Edward ("Doc") Teubel and his wife Anna. She grew up in Kansas City, graduated from Lillis High School, and soon met Ed Egan. Dad was smitten at first sight and knew that this beautiful lass was destined to be his wife and the mother of their eventual brood of seven children.
JoAnn was a loving wife, a devoted daughter and a loyal friend and sister. Exquisite homemaker, nurturer extraordinaire, den mother, cafeteria volunteer and expert cook that she was, as a Mom her singular purpose was raising her children to know they were loved. We were well-fed, kept clean as a whistle and, according to the nuns at St. Elizabeth's, we all had "such beautiful handwriting." Mom was the artist and the master of "Palmer Penmanship." She so loved her kids, 14 grand kids, and 2 great- grandchildren - and anything and everything they did. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, bridge groups, Las Vegas trips, video poker - and most of all, our numerous family gatherings and celebrations.
JoAnn is survived by her older sister, Kathleen Muder and by her six children: Dennis Egan (wife Judy, sons Brian and Corey); David (wife Vickie, daughter Natalie); Daniel (son Andrew); Mary Dianne (children Becky, Brandon, Alison and Megan); Donna (children Jennifer and Justin); Douglas (children Erin, Bridget, Kate and Patrick) and her great-grandchildren: Sophia Egan and newest arrival, Becky's baby boy Benjamin Tebbe.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her devoted husband Ed and youngest son Darin. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who eased JoAnn into her next life: home-care angels Rose and Shirley, Saint Luke's Hospice and Home Care (especially her nurses Kay and Mary), the Sisters Servants of Mary and Hospice House of KC. So many lives were touched by JoAnn's warmth and love; we know she's smiling down on all of us.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, with visitation at the church from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. In honor of JoAnn's faith, you may make a donation to St. Thomas More Church or Sisters Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th St., Kansas City, KS 66102.
