

He was preceded in death by his parents Gus and Nora Oxler, his wife of 58 years Joyce and brothers Tom, Mike and wife Millie, John and Gus. He is survived by his sister Mary Whitaker, sisters in law Bev, Mary Lou, and Harriet. He leaves four children, Dan (Marianne), Dave (Patty), Jeanne Ventola (Nick), and Bill (Annie), thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Grade School, Rockhurst High School and attended Rockhurst College. He was a member of Plumbers Local No. 8 and retired as vice president of U. S. Engineering Company after more than a forty year career. Notable projects included Worlds of Fun, Oceans of Fun, Research Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, the General Motors Leeds and Fairfax Plants and many other projects in the Kansas City area.
Dad’s priorities in life were faith, family and friends. He was a devout Catholic including a lifetime of daily mass and a member of St. Elizabeth’s Parish for 88 years. Joe was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a lifelong love for the game of baseball. He was a player, coach, spectator and a statistical authority.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7 at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 2 East 75th, Kansas City, MO, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 8 at St. Elizabeth’s Church followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Joe and his family request donations be made to St. Elizabeth’s Church or Rockhurst High School.
