

John W. “Jack” Carey, 78, Kansas City, passed away on May 22, 2016. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City. Committal Service is Friday, May 27 at 10:30 AM at Terrace Park Cemetery, 801 NE Shoal Creek Blvd, Kansas City.
He was born on May 24, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to John M. “Jack” Carey and Myrtle M. Branstetter. He was a life-long resident of Kansas City, graduating from the De La Salle Military Academy with the class of 1954. He was a member of the National Honor Society.
Jack married Gladys F. Dempsey on May 14, 1960 in Miami, OK. They were later remarried in St. Raphael Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO while it was still a mission, before the building of the new church. To this union was born a daughter, Cynthia Ann Carey.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Gladys F. Carey, on March 11, 1989. His father, John M. Carey August 3, 1971; brother William J. Carey June 16, 1948; sister, Helen M Carey December 16, 1977; and his mother, Myrtle M Carey June 23, 2008.
On January 2, 1993 he was married to Patricia M Winterringer, daughter of William John Wilson Houston and Alexandria Falconer, at St. Raphael Church in Kansas City, MO by the Rev. James Powers.
Jack retired from Kansas City Power & Light after 30 and one half years. He retired early on a buyout in 1994 while in a position of analyst in the Production Services Department.
Patricia passed away on July 2, 2008 at North Kansas City Hospital.
Surviving are his daughter, Cynthia A Simmons and her son Nathaniel Ryan Carey Simmons; a stepdaughter Gayle Brunkow and husband Dean of Belen, NM; a stepson Dan Winterringer and wife Debbie of Kansas City, KS; stepdaughter Dana Way and husband Eric of Bonner Springs, KS; two sisters, Mary A Hare of St. Joseph, MO and Elizabeth Dunlap of Kansas City, MO and one brother, Thomas Carey of Kansas City, MO.
