John Gerard Donohue, son of Felix Gerard Donohue and Mary Josephine (McGilley) Donohue, passed away on March 2, 2025. He lived each day with faith and integrity, embracing a life that was full and happy. He will be deeply missed.
John graduated from Rockhurst High School and attended Iowa State for 2 years. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in the livestock industry for many years at F.G. DONOHUE Order Buyers and on the family farm in Osceola, Iowa.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was a lifelong Catholic and a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
John leaves behind a loving family, including his 11 children: Mary J. (Earl) Roche, Kitty (Dennis) O’Grady, Ellen (Mike) Lopas, Peggy (Dan) Kongs, Patty Weber-Easterday (Eddie Easterday), Susie (Pat) Seib, Nancy (Dan) Quigley, Jeany Donohue, Anna (Phil) Tumberger, Mike (Ginny) Donohue, and Jim (Emily) Donohue. He was also a grandfather to 34 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandfather to one.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret (Hodes) Donohue, and their infant son, John Donohue.
A visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday, March 6, from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., followed by the Rosary and Mass at 10:00 a.m.
