John was born on March 21, 1974, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Claude and Barbara Eidson. From an early age, it was clear that John possessed a servant's heart and a deep desire to protect and care for others. As a teenager, he achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout and was honored as a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. During his high school years, he took the first steps toward his lifelong calling by joining the Raytown Police Department Explorer Post, setting the foundation for a remarkable career in law enforcement.
In 1995, at just 20 years old, life threw John a curveball and he underwent a liver transplant. After receiving his transplant, he graduated from the police academy and dedicated the next 28 years of his life to serving and protecting the communities he loved. In 2024, he retired from the Lake Winnebago Police Department as Deputy Chief, because his body could no longer keep pace with the servant's heart that had guided him throughout his life.
While patiently awaiting another liver transplant, he pursued a calling to ministry. In 2026, he was ordained, preparing to combine his steadfast faith with his lifelong "boots-on-the-ground" commitment to helping others. He dreamed of serving as a chaplain and participating in search and rescue missions.
Even in death, John continued to bless others. Although he was not able to receive the transplant that would save his life, he gave the gift of sight through the donation of his corneas. His final act of generosity reflected the way he lived every day—putting others before himself and offering hope wherever he could.
John loved his family with his whole heart. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was simply being "Dad" and "Papa John”.
John is survived by his parents, Claude and Barbara Eidson; his children, Steven Norris (Courtney) and Faith Eidson-Johnston (Lachlan); his beloved grandchildren, Kennedy, Malcolm, Aurora, Salem, and Koda; his adoring sisters; and many cherished extended family members, lifelong friends, brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and his faith community.
