

John was born on January 30, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Lee J. Figge and Elinor W. Figge. He attended Christ the King School and graduated from Archbishop O’Hara High School.
John was an avid fisherman who loved spending time outdoors. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on. Known for his quick wit and great sense of humor, John was always ready with a joke and a smile. Even during his most difficult days, he maintained his positive spirit and brought laughter to those around him.
John was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in August 2018 and faced his illness with remarkable strength, courage, and determination. Throughout his eight-year battle, he remained positive, resilient, and quick with a joke, bringing smiles to those around him even during his most difficult days. He passed away peacefully on the morning of June 8, 2026.
On May 18, 1996, John married the love of his life, Tamara Nelson-Stuhlman, and they shared 30 wonderful years together.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tamara Nelson-Stuhlman of Lee’s Summit; his sisters, Diane Linder and Virginia Figge of Olathe; his nephew, James F. Thomas IV; his niece, Krysten Self; his nephew, Mark Linder; his niece, Karen Linder; his great-nephew, Logan Linder; his great-niece, Ralyn Williams, all of Olathe; and many dear friends who will miss him greatly.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lee J. Figge and Elinor W. Figge; his brother, James F. Thomas III; and his nephew, Brian M. Linder.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 East 47th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64133, on June 18, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Rosary Service followed by Memorial Service will at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The University of Kansas Cancer Center or the American Cancer Society.
