John was born on January 4, 1927 in Washington, Iowa to John Pressley Gamble and Mabel Carr Gamble. He grew up in Washington, Iowa, Graduated high school and immediately joined the Army to participate in World War II. He served as a member of the occupational forces in Shanghai China. After the service he enrolled at the University if Iowa. Upon graduation in 1951 he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. He served in New Mexico at Kirkland Air Force base. He remained an Iowa Hawkeye fan and a proud veteran.
John was preceded in death by his parents, son Guy Gamble, two sisters, June who died at an early age, and Clara Gamble Shelangoski.
Surviving are his wife Patricia, son Jeffrey John Gamble, granddaughter Dawn Altis and her husband Richard Altis and great grandson Alexander Michael Altis and five special nieces, Karen Shelangoski, Joyce Shelangoski, Mary Ann Hayner and husband David Hayner, Connie Shelangoski Woodin and husband Kevan and Teri Felix and husband Angel (Willy).
John and Patricia married in 1952 and celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. They lived at Fort Madison, Iowa for a while, John worked for Sheaffer Pen Company. They also lived in Des Moines Iowa. In 1965 they found their favorite place to live: Lake Winnebago Missouri.
John retired in 1990 and he and Pat were able to take many trips over seas and by car in the U.S.A.
He loved living at the Lake and his favorite place was in the middle of the back seat of our classic Ski Nautique. He just wanted a cold beer and to listen to the rumble of the engine.
A celebration of life for John will be held at the Floral Hills Funeral Home & Cemetery at 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City Missouri on Thursday July 21th at 9:00 am Celebration of life service at 10:00 am. Followed by a Military Funeral Honor performed at his final resting place at 11:00 am.
