John Colby Hanaway, 91, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away May 3, 2016. John is a veteran of World War II, where he served in Europe with G Company, 413th Regiment, 104th Infantry Division earning the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart. He received his degree in architectural engineering at the University of Kansas, and enjoyed a long career at Black & Veatch.
John was born January 8, 1925 in Independence, Missouri, son of John Oscar and Elsie (Colby) Hanaway. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary (Thomas) Hanaway, son Thomas "Tom" Hanaway and brother Paul Hanaway. He is survived by his son John “Ken” Hanaway (Stephanie), daughter Melinda “Linda” Hanaway, grandsons Logan and Grant Hanaway, daughter-in-law Mindy Hanaway, brothers Bill, David (Dottie) and Roger and sisters Dorothy and Nan.
Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
