

John A. Heillman, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, gently passed into the arms of his Savior on April 14, 2017. He was born 102 years ago on April 6, 1915 in Kansas City, graduated from Northeast High School with the rank of Major in the ROTC Rifle Team. He was a prestigious member of the Greater Kansas City Pistol League as an expert marksman with pistol, rifle, submachine and machine gun. One competition, at age 16, John beat his national champion father’s shooting record by hitting the mark 150 out of a possible 150. John also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Known throughout Kansas City as “Mr. Concrete”, he worked 38 years for Stewart Sand Co. and 10 years with Lone Star Industries as a concrete technician and quality control expert.
John was a life-long member of the Christian Church serving as a deacon, elder & board member. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris and sister Iris Schupp.
Survivors include son Melvin Heillman of Lenexa, KS; daughter Sharon Land of Kansas City, MO and Tina Bedard (Byron) of Littleton, CO; grandchildren Heather Jones (David) of Shawnee, KS, Seth Heillman (Shannen) of Lenexa, KS, John Morrissey of Kansas City, MO, Matt Morrissey of Kansas City, MO, Jason Land of Seattle, WA, and Stacy Rolland (Mark) of Lincoln, NE; and eight great-grandchildren Ethan, Jack, Lucy, Maddie, Morgan, Jett, Jack and Alexander.
Visitation will be from 10:30-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Raymore Christian Church, 500 Peace Dr., Raymore, MO 64083. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fellowship of John, Foxwood Springs Residence Council, PO Box 701, Raymore, MO 64083.
