He married Kathy Meyer on January 12th, 1957 and soon after spent three years in the U.S. Army. He proudly served 30 years on the Kansas City, MO Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant. While on the Department he earned his Master’s degree from Central Missouri State University. After retiring from the Police Department he went on to work for Honeywell FM&T for 10 years.
John has two daughters, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and was honorary grandpa to many of his neighborhood children who enjoyed his attention and care each day at the bus stop on his driveway.
He enjoyed travelling out west, especially with his grandchildren, spending the summers and as many weekends as he could at the lake camping and boating. He loved his convertibles and motorcycles. He was a big Chiefs and Royals fan, loved Louis L'Amour books, John Wayne and James Bond movies.
He was a loving man who was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He had a great sense of humor and liked to tease and was especially good at getting people on April Fools' Day. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathy; his daughter Jackie Meyer, daughter Kimberly Bridges and husband Allen; five grandchildren, Marissa Meyer, Dillon Meyer, Rachel MacMillan and husband Derek, Nathan Hanners, and Amelia Hanners. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son John Jr and his brother Carl.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
