Mr. John Kenneth Shepherd

John was the beloved husband of Kathy Shepherd, his wife of 57 years. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, challenges, celebrations, and countless memories. Through all of life’s seasons, Kathy was by his side, and the life they built together was one of John’s greatest accomplishments.

John is survived by his wife, Kathy; his son, Kenny (Meredith); and his daughter, Natalie (James). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ian (Alexiss), Cole, Voss, Blake, Violet, Honor, and Wesley; and his sister, Patricia Jackson, along with many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Poe and Ann Grable, and his mother, Minnie Larssen.

John devoted his entire career to the YMCA, a place that reflected so much of what mattered to him. Through his work, he dedicated his time and energy to helping others, building community, and making a difference in the lives of those around him. His years with the YMCA were more than simply a career; they were an important part of the life he chose to live and the legacy he leaves behind.

Above all else, John was a husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy. He loved watching his children grow, seeing his grandchildren become the people they are today, and being part of the moments, both big and small, that made a family a family.

John will be remembered not only for the years he spent serving others, but for the love he gave so freely to the people closest to him. He leaves behind 57 years of memories with Kathy, a family who will carry his love with them, and grandchildren who will always know how deeply they were loved by their grandfather.

His absence will be felt in countless ways: in family gatherings, familiar stories, quiet moments, and all the little things that will remind those who loved him of the man he was. His love, his lessons, and the memories he created will live on through his family for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in John’s memory to Blood Cancer United, formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Helping others was an important part of John’s life, and supporting those affected by blood cancer is a meaningful way to continue that legacy. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and donations made through September 30 are being matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of each gift.
