John Harold Shore was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 17, 1940 to Waldo and Ebba Shore. John grew up in Kansas City where he was active in sports, particularly football, at Southwest High School. John attended Baker University, where he was co-captain of the football team, playing offense, defense and special teams. John received numerous athletic and academic awards while at Baker. It was at Baker that John met his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Lea Lichty. John and Mary Lea both graduated from Baker University in 1962. They married in June 1962 and spent their honeymoon in Niagara Falls on their way to New York City where John attended New York University School of Retailing on scholarship and graduated with honors. Upon graduation, John and Mary Lea moved to Overland Park, Kansas. John joined his father, Waldo, and brother, George, in the family tire business, Shore Tire Company where he served as Vice President until age 50. John was an extraordinary salesman, making everyone who walked in the door feel welcomed, cared for and given the best deal possible. John had a deep love for all people, never having met a stranger.

At age 50, John felt God leading him to RE-TIRE from the tire business and serve God in ministry full-time. For the next 20+ years, John served with Are You Committed - KC in partnership with Rosey Grier, helping transform lives and living conditions in the Kansas City Urban core while also serving as a Board Member for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). John was subsequently hired to serve as FCA National Office Sr. Vice President, in charge of development for the multi-million dollar building expansion project. After completing this project, John served as Director of the Local Kansas City FCA office, from which he retired (again). Retirement didn't come easy for John so he took on a part-time job with Deeper Waters, helping with overseas mission projects and also providing HOPE to local communities.

John was a loving husband, devoted father, "Uncle John" and friend to many. John loved spending time with his family. While John worked 6 days a week at Shore Tire, he still made sure he took time to attend his children's' sports and performance events as well as take family vacations together. John and Mary Lea literally travelled the world with their kids and, in later years, to see their kids and grandkids. Their love, prayers and support were always felt. In addition, people all over the world have been touched by John's effervescent spirit, humor, laughter and solid commitment to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John and Mary Lea opened their hearts and home to young people and adults for over 15 years, serving as Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle sponsors for Indian Creek Junior High and Shawnee Mission South High School. They led weekly Bible Studies and huddle times as well as taking groups to summer FCA camps all over the country. John's energy never waned, his laughter and love helping young people know they had a safe place to be and adults who cared for them, physically, mentally and spiritually.

As people remember John, it has been said "He's one of a kind." "He's a special man!" "God used him to change my life." "He was a dad to me." There really aren't enough words to state the impact John's life had in our world but what John wanted everyone to know was this: "I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life." -the words of Jesus in John 8:12. John's final words to all are "Make it a GREAT day! I LOVE YOU ALL. To God be the Glory!"

Those who know John agree that Jesus has already said to him, "Well done, My good and faithful servant."

John is survived by his wife, Mary Lea, of 58 years, his daughter Debbie (Rodney) of Lee's Summit, MO; his son Lance (Cindi) of Coon Rapids, MN; three grandchildren Logan (Katie), Daniel Luke and Riley (Nick). John was a dedicated uncle to three nephews and two nieces, and a friend to Metro Kansas City.

There will be a Visitation from 9:30am to 11:00am on Saturday, April 17 at Christ Community Church, 14200 Kenneth Road, Leawood, Kansas. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am.
