

John David “J.D.” Taylor, 84, passed away Oct. 16, 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri at his home from complications of bone cancer and prostate cancer. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tue, Oct. 22, 2013 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131.
J.D. was born on Sept. 6, 1929 in a log cabin near Miller, Missouri to John and Rosa Taylor. J.D. attended school in Miller, Missouri. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and was stationed in Germany. He was a military policeman while in the army. After serving in the army he had several jobs including an over the road truck driver and gas station attendant.
J.D. married Sally Wiedenmann in Kansas City, Missouri in January of 1956. He had three sons, Steve, Mike, and Gary. J.D. owned and operated Taylor’s Trash service for many years. He also owned and operated Taylor’s Junk Yard which specialized in hub-caps and wheels retiring in the early 2000. He and Sally were in a bad car wreck in 2006 from which they never fully recovered.
J.D. and Sally bought one of the first houses in the Robandee neighborhood of south Kansas City in 1960. He resided there the rest of his life. J.D. and Sally enjoyed racing go-karts in the 1960’s and 1970’s. They were members of IKF and traveled the country racing their go-karts. Some of the many locations often traveled to were Wichita, KS, Garnett, KS, Lincoln, NE, Tulsa, OK, Richards-Gebaur A.F.B., Liberty, MO, and Bonner Springs, KS. He also became a pit crew leader when he retired from racing when his oldest son, Steve started racing. J.D. was one of the best at fixing go-karts and their engines.
After racing go-karts and working on them, J.D. became interested in old cars. He had several Model A Fords. He and Sally bought a motor home and enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their motor home in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Some of J.D.’s other interests were NASCAR, Kansas City Chiefs, and going to local Kansas City casinos. He especially enjoyed the Flamingo now called the Isle of Capri the most. He had a collection of old toys.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents John Taylor and Rosa Williams and his brother Jack Taylor and his sister Pat Ball. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally Taylor and sons: Steve Taylor (Susie) of Savannah, MO, Mike Taylor of Pleasant Hill, MO and Gary Taylor of Kansas City, MO. He had two grand-children, Holly Taylor of Savannah, MO and Jonathan Taylor of Lee Summit, MO. He also had one great grandson, Jaxon Duncan of Savannah, MO. He is also survived by one brother, Benny Taylor of Wichita, KS and 1 sister, JoAnn Brammer of Independence, MO.
