Johnnie attended and graduated from Lincoln Academy. Afterwards, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for nearly two years. After leaving the military, Johnnie married Geraldine Chatman in January of 1965. After this, Johnnie Harper III was born to this union in 1966. Later in life, Johnnie met Barbara Alexander, and later welcomed Evette in 1974.
In the early 70's, Johnnie began working for Honeywell as a Planner Engineer. He worked for Honeywell for over forty years up until retirement. In his spare time, Johnnie loved to go bowling, taught as a Karate instructor, played guitar, played pool and read. With his children, he enjoyed going to the drive-in theater, going out to eat, and spending quality time. Johnnie also loved to watch boxing. With his grandchildren, he loved going to IHop, having Bible studies, and having long conversations. His family describes him as a very intellectual person. He was very intelligent with math, and would often help his grandchildren with their homework. Johnnie was a straight shooter, and his advice will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death are Johnnie's mother and father. He is survived by his children, Johnnie, Evette and Nicole; grandchildren: La'Shoya, Danielle, and Cherise. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, aunts and uncles and a special friend, Barbara Alexander.
