JoMaria Anderson was born on November 14, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the third of five daughters born to Milton and Eunice Brummall. Edna Brummall, Carolyn Allen - Manning, Catherine Harris preceded JoMaria’s earthly departure. She was called home to our Lord Jesus Christ on August 31, 2024.
JoMaria was a remarkable woman. She graduated from Sumner High School, and furthered her education at Longview Community and Donnally Colleges. She accepted Christ at an early age, becoming a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church. She later joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in 1988, where she served faithfully as an usher for almost twenty years, until her health began to fail. She worked on several jobs, (Bendix, Mobil Oil) before working and retiring from Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Macy’s (part-time). During her employment she was granted many awards and bonuses for her performance.
In 1973 JoMaria married Willie Anderson at Greystone Heights Missionary Baptist, Kansas City, Kansas and happily raised their daughter, Rhonda. Their loving union lasted 50 years, until her transition. No one was a stranger to her for long because she was happy having conversations and sharing. She was a joy to be around! Everyone called her “Joey,” however Willie often called her “Joy” because that’s what she meant to him. She loved her family and was elated to have visits from her daughter, grandchildren and the great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed many hobbies; some of which were talking with their daughter, Rhonda, going on cruises, studying her Bible, reading Christian books, cooking and sewing. She also became obsessed with catching bargains at Macy’s, her part-time job!
JoMaria will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Willie Anderson of the home; daughter, Rhonda Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Vickie Washington (William) of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Brandon Oxley (Andrea) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Amber Biggs (Bradley) of Marietta, Georgia; Chloe of San Diego, California; Sis-In-Law, Lovia Harrell, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Brother-in Law, Benjamin Anderson (Willia Jean) of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Roman, Bradley Jr., and Brayden; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
A Visitation for JoMaria will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A Homegoing Celebration will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial at 3:00 PM in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
