The Rev. Jonathan K. Wright was born November 13, 1954, son of Rev. Albert Cornelius Edward Wright, Mrs. Viola Wright and Mary Kou Wright in Sanniquellie, Liberia, all of whom preceded him in death. Rev. Wright passed away on Saturday February 29, 2020 in Kansas City, KS after a period of illness from heart disease.
Rev. Wright traveled to the US for education and was ordained to serve as an Elder in the AME Church in Bridgeport, CT in the early eighties.
Rev. Wright returned home and served as Pastor of Jordan Chapel AME Church, Saclepea, Nimba County, Mount Carmel AME Church, Arthington, Montserrado County and the First Bethel AME Church, Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. He served as Deputy Mayor City of Monrovia during the tenure of Hon. Daniel G. Johnson as Mayor.
Upon relocating to the United States due to the civil war, Rev. Wright remained an AME Preacher in the Fifth Episcopal District of the AME Church during the Episcopal tenure of the late Bishop Vernon Randolph Byrd, pastoring in Joplin , Missouri, Arkansas City, KS, Grant Chapel AME in Kansas City, KS, St. Paul AME in Independence, MO and finally in St. Joseph, MO. Rev. Wright embraced the vision to minister to immigrant populations and organized and founded the Revival for Hope Ministries, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. in 2010 which he served as Pastor up till his death.
Jonathan befriended Ella-Mai McBorrough in Monrovia, Liberia in 1984 for a brief period. They reconnected in 1996 and married on March 11, 2000 and started a family.
Rev. Jonathan K. Wright leaves to mourn, his wife, Mrs. Ella-Mai McBorrough Wright, his daughters Elyn, Jadyn, & Alayne Wright and his twin sister, Joan P. Wright. His surviving sibling include his brothers, Mr. Roland D. Smallwood, Mr. Julius S. Wright, Mr. J. Enoch Wright, Justice Micah Wilkins Wright, Mr. Kanton Wright, Mr. Victor Wright, and Mr. Mathew S. Wright; his sisters, Ms. Martha Kou Wright, Mrs. Evelyn B. Yarsiah, Ms. Rebecca Yoryor, Mrs. Albertha Cornelia Carter, Ms. Estella K. Wright. Mrs. Barbara Amelia Smith, Mrs. Evelyn Trinity, Mrs. Rachel Waritay, Ms. Mrs. Emma Stewart, and Mrs. Rose Karduan; many nephews and nieces; cousins, in-laws and a host of relatives and friends.
