

Josefina Vargas-Reyes, 94, was born February 18, 1926 to Samuel Chaparro-Rico and Cruz Chaparro-Venegas in Estacion Terra, Chihuahua, Chihuahua. A long time Kansas City, Missouri resident she was married to Margarito Vargas, deceased, for many years. She found love again and remarried Andrew Reyes, deceased. Josefina was a seamstress at Brand & Puritz. She was a devout Catholic and long-time member of Sacred Heart Church on the Westside, belonging to Las Guadalupanas. Josefina enjoyed sewing, dancing, singing and helping others in any way possible but most of all, loved being with her family, which she cherished.
Josefina was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter Lucy Melton, son Martin “Chito” Vargas, sister Bertha Anda, and brother Samuel Chaparro Jr. She is survived by her sister Guadalupe Zuniga, children Samuel Vargas, Sr. (Virginia), Alma L. Stevens (Edwin III), Lilia Grado (Robert), Oscar Vargas, Mario Vargas (Laurie), Rosie Martinez (Raymond), Elva Hernandez, Hector Vargas, Elida Paredes (Ralph, Sr.), Martha Newman, Bertha Bogart, Cesar Vargas (Nancy), thirty-eight grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, twenty-four great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Special thanks to our sisters Elva Hernandez and Rosie Martinez and their famiies for taking such good care of our mother.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private family Mass will be held on Tuesday, Dec 22, 2020 at Sacred Heart Church in Kansas City, MO.
