Joe Brennan passed away peacefully at St Luke’s Hospice House, in the presence of caring friends and his priest.
He was born on Nov 30, 1930, to Dr. Joseph Brennan and Margaret Elizabeth Brennan nee Hogan, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1949 and went to College of the Holy Cross on a Navy ROTC scholarship, graduating cum laude in 1953. He served in the US Navy as a gunnery officer for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1956. He attended the Univ of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law, graduating in 1959.
He was elected municipal judge for the City of Grandview while in law school and served for 3 years. He joined the FAA as an aviation attorney, where he served from 1959 until 1989. Joe met Phyllis Lou Bogardus in law school, and they married in 1964. They lived in several Midwestern cities, but considered Kansas City home base. They enjoyed traveling together and were devout members of St Thomas More Parish until they moved to Bishop Spencer Place in 2016. Joe was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, logging many hours and awards over the years.
Phyllis preceded him in death in 2017. Memorial contributions may be made to Avila University, to the Phyllis and Joseph Brennan Scholarship.
