A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:30 AM, with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119. Burial will follow services in Park Lawn’s Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Butch was born on August 28, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to parents Joseph Lee and Blanche (Perry) Germer. He graduated from Westport High School on June 8, 1962. He married Vicki Carleton on May 24, 1969. He retired from Metro Park Warehouse on Front Street in Kansas City.
Butch joined the Temple Gate Lodge 299 in 1975. Later, he went on to the Ararat Shrine. He was a Past Worthy Patron of East Gate Chapter 367 in 1991. On May 10, 1976, he became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Treasurer from 2004 to 2020.
He was also involved with the Backpack Shepherds where he would assist in providing food to children in need.
He was a longtime member of Bethel United Church of Christ and served on the Church Council as well as being an Usher. He was lovingly known by his fellow church goers as “The Keeper of the Sign.”
Butch’s favorite pastimes included bowling and playing card games in his bunko club.
Butch is preceded in death by both of his parents, Joseph and Blanche; his wife, Vicki Rae Germer; and his companion, Jenifer “Jenny” Ellis. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Michael (Marilynn) Carleton; niece, Tiffany Turner; great-niece, Sierra (Kenny) Wing; and his step-daughter and caregiver, Sherry (Terry) Teer and their family, Ashley, Kyle, Rylee, Ryder, and Ryssa.
Pallbearers will be Terry Teer, Kyle Thompson, Connor Thompson, John Wirt, Brian Geary, and Brennen Knabe.
