Born May 18, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, Joseph was the son of Joseph and Josephine Charmella. He graduated from Center High School and later attended Devry University, where he earned his Bachelors.
Joseph built a long and steady career with Sprint, where his dedication and careful attention to the work before him carried him forward to the role of IT Manager. He approached his profession with a thoroughness, and he was personable, and consistently considerate in his dealings with colleagues and friends alike.
A lifelong Kansas resident, Joseph maintained strong roots in his local community. He was a member of Christ the King Parish and held a strong, quiet faith. He also gave generously of his time through the Leawood Lion's Club, serving as secretary for many years—an enduring reflection of his reliability and the thoughtful care he brought to the responsibilities entrusted to him. Though he kept his private life quiet, those who knew him recognized a warm presence and a steady willingness to help.
Joseph’s interest in computers and technology remained a constant throughout his life. He took particular enjoyment in finding laptops to tinker with as he continually broadened his technology skills.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Charmella.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Hayden (Frank); his nephew Matt Hayden, niece Kristen Giffen (Chad), great-nephews and nieces (Henry, Stella, Sonny, Goldie and Mars) and many cousins.
