Don was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City Metro area, born in 1922 to Joseph A. and Louella Farquhar the youngest of three siblings. Don had a simple up bringing, and in 1941 he enlisted in to the Navy to serve his county. He was then transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, where he met Eleanor Bell. After his service in the Navy, they were married in August of 1945. Don started work for the Kansas City Athletics, and then for Ford Motor Company until we retied.
Don was an avid traveler, from visiting the seas in Cancun, Mexico to riding Camels around the pyramids in Giza, Egypt and trips around the United States, and later many frequent road trips to Branson, Missouri where he enjoyed music and shows.
He was a people person and loved to chat with any one, he loved to tell stories and share memories, with anyone he met. Favorite stories he often shared from riding motorcycles, skydiving, family memories or dancing on a stage. Don loved to listen to us tell him about our life adventures, what happened at school and how thing were going in our daily lives. We will all greatly miss his stories and sharing so many parts of our every day lives with him.
He was a big fan of sports, from Wrestling to Soccer and watching his Grandkids activities, he loved it. In the early 1980’s he and his family befriended a group of players from a local indoor soccer team called the “Kansas City Comets”, inviting them into their home where they became family. As Don settled down over the last few years this continued on. He would come to know “The Brett’s”, “The Dutton’s”, “The Dyeer’s”, “Hughes” and others through countless trips to Branson, just like the Comets he welcomed them with open arms into his life and called them family. Most people lovingly referred to Don as “JD”, “Pops”, “Gramps”, “Dad” and yes, even “Daddy Don”. Whatever you called him, you would start along friendship lines, but all were family to him in a short time.
Don was preceded in death by his parents’ Joseph A., and Louella Farquhar, Wife Eleanor and Sister Marge and Brother William (Bill), Don is survived by two children: Donald H. Farquhar and David R.
