

Joseph Hernandez, 82, passed away Friday morning, April 21, 2006 at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Hernandez was born February 2, 1924 in Holiday, Kansas. He married his soul mate Nellie Munoz on November 6, 1946. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He belonged to American Legion Post 609. He was a lifelong resident of the Westside and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. He retired from Swift & Company.
Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his parents, Eligio and Gregoria Hernandez and two brothers, John and Nick Hernandez. He leaves behind his wife of 59 and a half years, Nellie Hernandez, three brothers; Marion, Manuel, and Alex Hernandez, four sisters; Jovita Martinez, Virginia Martinez, Linda Hernandez, and Mary Rojas, his five children, daughter, Barbara and Chris Muro of Roeland Park, Kansas, son; Joseph and Kathy Hernandez of Denver, Colorado, son; Andrew and Carol Hernandez of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter; Sandra Campos of Overland Park, Kansas, and son; Ronald and Nancy Hernandez of Kansas City, Kansas, 17 grandchildren; Lupe, Desi, Andrew Jr., Jeanette, Michael, Jesse, Joseph, Cristal, Christopher, Melony, Brittania, Martin, Laura, Frank, Ronald Jr., Michael David, and Celena and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 907 Cesar Chavez, Kansas City, Missouri 64108, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Shrine with burial following in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Sacred Heart Guadalupe Church or to the KU Medical Center Cardiology Department.
