
Joe was born June 30, 1925 in St. Joseph, MO to Charles T. Helton, Jr and Bertha Page Helton. He graduated from Faucett High School in 1943. During WWII he served in the Navy as a naval radio operator, was severely wounded by a shrapnel bomb, and received the Purple Heart. He was called back into service for the Korean conflict and was assigned to the destroyer, USS Mansfield. He was employed by the Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, MO for 12 years, then as an insurance agent. Joe enjoyed retirement years in Sun City West, Arizona, then moved back to the Kansas City area in 2007 and has resided at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron Missouri since 2009.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, John Edward Helton and his wife, Beverly Helton. Survivors include his son, Michael Helton (Traci Keeler); daughter, Jo Ann Wittenborn; stepchildren, Connie Perkins (David) and Mark Hubble (Kennerd); grandchildren, Emily Eddins, Alex Eddins and Kyle Helton; step-grandchildren, Rebecca Perkins, Michael Hubble (Cathy), Stacy Frisch (Chad), Shaun Hubble (Julie), Cory Wittenborn (Kathy), Bryce Wittenborn and Damon Wittenborn (Lauren) and step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service is 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery. Condolences to mountmoriahterracepark.com.
