He is survived by his children Joy Thompson of Blue Springs, Missouri, Jay Thompson and wife Amanda, granddaughters Tiffany and Madison and one great grandson Liam of Blue Springs, Missouri, his brother Donald Thompson and wife Carrie of Crowley, Texas, his sister Donna Welborn of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty J. of 42 years, two sisters Lucille Huber and Flora Sudduth.
Joe married Betty in October 1958 and started his family in 1959. His daughter and son as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of his eyes. Joe was always there to give a helping hand when needed to give support in any way he could. He enjoyed the holidays with family and looked forward to the family getting together.
Joe worked at Solo Cup Company in Grandview, Missouri and retired after 37 years as the Warehouse and Traffic Manager. Joe was dedicated to his company and demonstrated exceptional work ethic. He was known as a tough but fair manager and was respected by co-workers and the team he supervised.
Joe enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with family, friends and neighbors. He was most excited about re-building antique cars and specialized in restoring them to street rod condition. He was able to re-build cars from the ground up with great success. He won many trophies at various local car shows for “Best in Show”. His 1937 frost beige Chevy Coupe was selected as one of the “Dirty Dozen” in a show with 450 participants from across the United States.
Joe loved the casinos and betting on the horses. Together with his wife travelled with his sister Flora and brother-n-law Norm on many road trips to explore the sites and take in a horse race.
In celebrating Joseph Thompson’s life we can measure it by all the good he gave, love he shared, success he achieved and the lives he touched during his 94 years. He was loved and will be missed.
