Joyce loved life and joyfully engaged with all of God’s creatures. Over the years, Joyce had many furry companions that would affectionately sit at her feet and were generally welcomed to every dinner meal. Additionally, Joyce would not be caught far from her bird feeders which remained full and ready to feed any flying friend that would venture near; the squirrels enjoyed them too. Along with her love of family, friends, and animals, Joyce always found time to nurture her flowers. In the summer, her flowers greeted friends and family while displayed in front of her home and in the winter her closet was full of bulbs getting ready for the next spring.
Joyce loved people and never knew a stranger. Her hobbies included volunteering at several elementary schools in both Raytown and Lee’s Summit and always enjoying with her many grandchildren. Joyce spent her life serving others through a variety of organizations. She was a founding member of her church, Countryside United Methodist, now called One Spirit United Methodist Church. Joyce was a longtime member of the Raytown Historical Society, and she spent time as a member of the Daughters of the Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, and was a Girl Scout Leader. Joyce attended Doane College and later worked as an office manager at the Raytown YMCA and at LeWil Pharmacy.
