Joyce was called home to GLORY on Monday, July 16, 2018. Her parents along with her brothers; Glenn Hodson and David Hodson preceded her in death.
The Hodson family moved to the Kansas City area in 1949. Her father, Clarence served as Controller at the Bendix Plant in Kansas City and her mother, Nettie briefly owned an antique shop.
Joyce graduated from Shawnee Mission East in 1966. She took several college courses and worked several jobs before landing a job at Business Men’s Assurance. In 1973 Joyce began a long public service career at the General Services Administration as an Accounting Technician. She continued her public career with the Department of Agriculture in 1987 from which Joyce retired as an IT Specialist in 2005, after 32 years of Government Service. Because of her love of baseball, Joyce also worked 12 baseball seasons in the main ticket office with the Kansas City Royals.
In 1973 she met Grant L. Walker and on December 6, 1975 they were joined in holy matrimony at Rising Star Baptist Church. Joyce and Grant enjoyed 42 years of love, friendship, and devotion to family. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters; Kimberly Dawn on August 13, 1981, and Meredith Joy on April 9, 1983. These blessings continued with four grandchildren; Destiny Elise, Levi Vick, Micah Lee, and Lyric Kay.
Joyce loved to bowl and was one of the best woman bowlers in the Kansas City area for years. Her daughters and then grandchildren have all been very involved in school and sports activities. Joyce was devoted to supporting her children and grandchildren, and loved every second of it.
She leaves to cherish her memory Grant L. Walker her loving and devoted husband; daughters Kimberly Dawn Agee (Angela) of Raymore and Meredith Joy Walker of Lee’s Summit; daughter-in-heart Angela Pacheco, grandchildren Destiny Elise, Levi Vick, Micah Lee, and Lyric Kay; brothers-in-law Herbert (Charlene) Walker and Willie (Yvonne) Walker; sisters-in-law Peggy Freeman and Elmira Hodson; nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
