Julianne Cunnyngham was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on January 21, 1933 to James Corbett Hardin and Clara Julien Hardin. Our beloved mother passed from this life on September 7, 2010, at home, in accordance with her wishes. Julianne attended Shawnee High School and Oklahoma A&M where she was Pi Beta Phi and graduated with a BS in Office Management. After graduating, she worked in the oil industry and lived in Tulsa where she met and married the love of her life, Ralph Cunnyngham. They moved to Kansas City in 1963 and eventually made their home in Leawood, though she remained a proud “Okie” all her life. Mom was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, a loving mother-in-law, and a doting grandmother. She was also a fabulous cook and was experimenting with new recipes right up until her passing. She was a fun bridge partner, a lively conversationalist, and a surrogate mother for what sometimes seemed like half the neighborhood. There was always food in the kitchen and room at the table. Julianne was also a Block Mother and Lifetime Member of the Kansas Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was a tough cookie – she beat cancer twice and bounced back from several strokes with a laugh and a smile. Mother was the proud matriarch of our family and will be missed dearly. Julianne was preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph. She is survived by her three sons and their families: Christopher; Terry and wife Carmen and their daughters, McKenzie and Kaelen; Mike and wife Julie and their sons, William and Ryan; and countless friends and acquaintances we hope remember her with a smile. We would also like to thank the staff at St. Joseph Medical Center, the Kansas City Cancer Center, KU Medical Center, Kansas City Hospice, and the office of Dr. John Dunlap for their kindness and professionalism. Services will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home South, 10507 Holmes, Kansas City, Missouri, 64131. Public Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with a service at 1:00 p.m. Mom loved flowers but she would certainly appreciate donations to www.safehome-ks.org in her name. Online condolences may be given at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com
