June Barbara (Poort) Williams went home to be with Jesus Saturday morning March 14, 2026 at her home. She was born on July 5, l933, the 7th child of Hugh Darwin and Neva Vanetta (Norman) Poort. June outlived seven sisters and six brothers, she felt a bit lonely being the last one. She reminisced often about her life on the farm with such a large family. It was a lot of hard work but always an adventure. They practically made up the small country school classes.
She graduated from Warrensburg High School. After high school she left the farm and moved to the city. She lived with her oldest sister and went to work at the Muehebach Hotel downtown Kansas City as an elevator operator. What an awakening for her that was.
June married at 19 to “Ole” Williams on April 12th, 1952 and remained together for the next 69 years. They had three daughters Rhonda Farrell, Lora Roark and Neva Williams, whom she considered her jewels. She was always devoted to her faith in God, her husband and children. June loved her family and grandchildren with all her heart and soul. Her favorite things to do were sewing our clothes, planting gardens of flowers and vegetables then canning them for winter meals. She was a great cook. She enjoyed listening to music and of course dancing with “Ole”. She loved to go camping with her family first on river banks, and not camp grounds. Eventually we had campers instead of tents then we took long vacations around the United States and Canada, it was wonderful. She was in her element while fishing, shooting shot guns, and enjoying the outdoors with her family.
June was her family's historian. She enjoyed compiling albums full of pictures and important documents for her entire family. And of course her personal family each have their own albums as well. She was an amazing woman. Twice a year we went to family reunions, she loved seeing her family. We had them of course outside in summer, but always had to have the Christmas reunion at a church because her family was so large. That didn’t include the ones that lived out of town. They sang and could harmonize beautifully, and also yodel. On her 91st birthday she yodeled and sung a familiar rhythm song that had us all smiling and laughing. What wonderful memories.
She is preceded in death by her husband Oleph Williams, her parents, and 13 siblings.
She is survived by three daughters Rhonda, Lora and Neva; four grandchildren Brett Titus, Deanna Catania, Allison Morris and Timothy Morris; seven great-grandchildren Deion Amrine, Devin Amrine, Noah Catania, Nylah Catania, Ryan Morris, Harrison Love, Leo Morris; one great-great-grandchild Locket Amrine and another one on her way; and numerous niece and nephews.
The celebration of life will be a private ceremony on Saturday March 21st at Floral Hills Cemetery in Raytown.
