Junior “Lee” Smothers, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, embarked on his final journey November 12, 2023. He was born on March 27, 1941, in Urbana, Missouri. Lee lived a life filled with laughter, mischief, and sometimes inappropriate jokes.
He leaves behind his bride of 46 years, Linda S Smothers, who shared in his adventures and laughter. Their love story was filled with joy, laughter, and perhaps a few well-timed eye rolls. Lee’s legacy also includes his daughters LizAnne, Leah, and son Pete Smothers (wife Megan), to which he passed his playful wit and sense of humor. He was a fun and loving grandfather to his granddaughter Katie Smothers, and a favorite Uncle and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Floy Smothers, as well as sister Erma J Greife, brothers James W Smothers and William D Smothers.
Lee was a hard working sheet metal worker and a lifelong member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #2. He was an avid sports fan of Sporting Kansas City, Kansas City Chiefs and begrudgingly the Kansas City Royals. Lee belonged to BSA Troop 62 and supported the troop for years. Every year he loved to go hunting for turkey and deer. He loved going on fishing trips in Canada.
Per Lee's wishes, a direct burial has been planned. He will be laid to rest beside his parents at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
The family asks that you respect their wish for privacy during this very difficult time. However, plans for a Celebration of Life at a future date will be forthcoming. We are looking forward to gathering with cherished family and friends to share our favorite anecdotes, swap tales of mischief, and honor the legacy of a man who we knew and loved.
In lieu of any flowers, if you are moved to do so, let's honor Lee's memory with contributions to the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care House. It's a chance to spread kindness and support to those in need while giving a nod to Lee's mischievous spirit.
