Karen Anne Baiers, of the Greater Kansas City area, was born February 2, 1945 in Watervliet, Michigan to Anne and Henry Baiers. Karen passed away from medical complications on August 25, 2022, in the care of KU Medical Center.
From an early childhood on a family fruit farm to graduating from Michigan State University (Home Economics, 1968), Karen was perennially engaged in community service and hard work. With much love for her many years as an executive secretary with the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department, she was also especially proud of her time as an oblate, employee, and student at Conception Abbey (Missouri). Karen enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer with such organizations as the Barack Obama election campaigns and Wayside Waifs.
Friends of Bill W. will recall her tireless generosity to those seeking a life of sobriety, and were touched by her willingness to share heartfelt stories that inspired healing and laughter.
Karen was a well-loved mother to Selina (Basey) ONeal and Chad Basey, both of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as grandchildren Raymond Soleil O’Neal, Louis James O’Neal, and Cali Jordone Basey.
She is also survived by her younger sister Renee Reinhardt and brother Kim Baiers, and is preceded in death by her older sister Kay L. Warren.
Karen will be remembered by the dear friends and family whom she loved very much in Michigan, Wisconsin, Kansas, and around the world.
