

KATHERINE D. WILLOUGHBY Katherine Darlene McMillen Willoughby, 73 of Harrisonville, MO, passed away September 15, 2015, at her home. Born the eighth child of Jacob and Charlotte Jane (Jenkins) McMillen on April 5, 1942 in Nyhart, MO. Katherine grew up in the Archie-Harrisonville area. She attended Lone Tree School from 1948 until 1951, then Harrisonville School through 1957. She attended Garden Grove High School, Garden Grove, CA, 1957-1958. She attended Pleasanton Rural High School, in Pleasanton, KS, where she graduated in 1960. She attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO from September 1960 to January 1962. She moved to Pleasanton in 1962. She lived and worked in Kansas City from 1964 until 1967. She lived in Harrisonville, working for Social Security and at the commissary office at Richards-Gebaur AFB until 1969. She married James Leander Willoughby July 10, 1969 and moved to Denver, Co, where she worked for the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center January through June 1973. In 1973, the family moved back to Missouri. She worked at IRS from 1974 to 1982, then at Social Security until her retirement in October 2002. From 1992 through 2003, she knitted hats for the Salvation Army’s “Kaps for Kids” program, making 3,587 hats, and additionally for Locke’s Stitchery’s hat program, she made 2,061 hats. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers, Charles McMillen and John McMillen, sister Estelle Monteer, and grandsons, Steven Hodges, Gracen Willoughby, and Paxton Willoughby. Survivors include her husband, James; two sons: Mark Willoughby and James Willoughby Jr.; two daughters: Linda Hodges and Susan Springer; brothers: Jacob McMillen Jr., and Edwin McMillen; sisters, Dorothy Burris and Mary Wills; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society. Memorial service will be 1:00pm, Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Worship Center, 2901 N 291 Hwy, Harrisonville, MO.
