Katie was born at St. Luke’s Hospital on February 13, 1981 to Linda & William Walker. She grew up in the same house she and her family currently reside. Valley Park Elementary, where her three boys attend now, was also her grade school until Tomahawk Ridge opened up. She went to Overland Trail Middle School and then on to Blue Valley North.
Katie always wanted to go away for college, TCU was her choice. She was an avid Horned Frog fan! She also loved KU sports, as long as they weren’t playing TCU. She knew she wanted to teach, so she earned her Master’s in Education at Rockhurst University. She always was an amazing student!
Katie met her husband, Vlady, from the Dominican Republic, after college when she wanted to travel to other countries. In 2005, the family made a trip to the Dominican Republic to have a lovely small wedding on the beach. Truly beautiful!
After grad school, Katie joined the staff at Blue Valley High School as a Spanish teacher. Spent one year at Blue Valley West, then back to Blue Valley. She taught through her illness until January, 2022. Katie found her passion in teaching and she LOVED her high school students! That is an understatement!
In 2012 Katie she gave birth to her son, Antonio, (Toño), in 2014 she had another boy, Emilio, (Milo), and then in 2016 had one more boy, Lorenzo, (Enzo). These three boys gave her so much joy, laughter, and occasionally a little stress ….after all, three boys are fun and a handful. She could not love them MORE! I don’t know a better Mother!!!
The last few years were quite challenging, but this beautiful human found ways to experience life with her boy’s & family. To this day, we are in awe of her humanity, her spirit, her humor, & her strength.
We miss her…always will.
