Kathy was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on September 20, 1951, to her mother, Helen Caston, and father, Jesse James Cannon. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and married George Steven Russell on October 16, 1971. Together, Kathy and George had three daughters: Stephanie, Jessica, and Meredith. This became the foundation of a family that would bless Kathy with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
To Kathy, her family meant everything. She loved fiercely, and in return, was loved by so many people. To everyone who knew her, Kathy was a remarkably tough woman, having survived breast cancer twice.
Beyond her family, Kathy was an avid sewist, a die-hard supporter of the Kansas Jayhawks, and a lover of country music, especially Billy Currington. Above all, however, her family was everything to her. They were her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Jesse, and by her beloved in-laws, Floyd and Retha Russell, who loved and cherished her as their own daughter.
Kathy is survived by her stepmother, Rita Cannon; half-siblings Craig, Donna, and Todd; and step-siblings Cindy, Aaron, Jessica, and Kyle.
She is survived by her children and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Bobby Brashears; Jessica and Larry Adrales; and Meredith and Jon Loewe, along with her grandchildren, Brooke and Caleb Wright, Daniel and Rosie Torres, Nicholas and Abby Adrales, Jordyn Adrales and Tyler Hein, Morgan and Cooper Kertz, Mason and Bailey Adrales, Jonah and Eryn Loewe, Joshua Loewe, and Zoë Brashears.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Beckett Adrales, Bristol and Eadie Wright, Mila Adrales, Elly Loewe, and a third Wright great-grandchild, expected later this year.
