

Born on July 6, 1932, to Truman and Gesner Brown, he was raised in Marshall, Missouri and graduated in 1950 from Marshall High School. Ken grew up hunting quail and ducks, a passion which he enjoyed throughout his life. He was an Eagle Scout and attended scout camp at the Lake of the Ozarks as a camper and in 1948 he spent 30 days at the Philmont Scout Ranch with nine other scouts from Marshall and Jefferson City; an experience that he recounted fondly during his life.
Ken continued his education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating in 1954 with a BA in history. While at the university Ken was actively involved with the Kappa Alpha fraternity, where he served as president. In 1952 he met the love his life Carolyn Buehrle, from Jefferson City, Missouri. They were married on April 23, 1955.
After graduating, Ken served two years as an officer in the Strategic Air Command, based in Topeka, Kansas, where he and Carolyn made their home. In 1956, they relocated to Columbia where he attended the University of Missouri school of accountancy, graduating with a MA in 1957.
Ken began his professional career in Kansas City with a national CPA firm. He and Carolyn later moved to Little Rock, Arkansas for a new job opportunity, where they lived until 1970 before returning to Kansas City. Ken retired in 1986. Together they built a loving Christian home filled with laughter and mutual support where they raised their two sons. Ken always acknowledged that Carolyn was the most important person in his life and largely responsible for any success that he achieved.
Throughout his life, Ken was an avid reader, primarily of American History. He and Carolyn spent a month touring all Civil War battlefields east of the Mississippi and later they traveled to England and Europe celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the “D” Day invasion and returned home on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary. They also made many automobile trips in the United States and Canada enjoying the beauty and majesty of our country.
Ken was deeply committed to his family, friends, and community, known for his generosity and unwavering faith. He was always competitive in his endeavors with his friends and family, including business, hunting, golf or bridge. He was a dependable leader who demonstrated genuine care for his loved ones, consistently offering support and guidance whenever needed.
He is survived by two sons, Todd (Cyndi) of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Steve (Rhonda) of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandsons, Jared, Zach (Hannah), Cole (Allie), Alec, Kellen (Ryan), Aaron and Luke and two great grandsons Miles and a new baby is due in January. He is also survived by two nephews, Randy Randolph (Chris), and Mike Randolph (Kristin), and their families.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Gesner; his sister, Katherine Randolph; and his nephew, Rick Randolph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday February 6, 2026, at Christ Community Church, 14200 Kenneth Road, Leawood, Kansas 66224, at 10:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
