Dr. Kenneth Coleman

Dr. Kenneth L. Coleman, 96, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home in the loving arms of his beloved wife, Martha Romero-Coleman. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Beatrice Hardiman and Mansfield Coleman, Kenneth lived a beautiful life grounded in faith, family, service, and love.

Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. Throughout his life, he continued serving others through his work with children, military families, education, and mental-health services. He believed in helping people, encouraging them, and giving them the opportunity to find their way forward.

But to those who loved Kenneth, his greatest accomplishments were not his degrees, awards, or career. He was simply a good man, often telling everyone “Be good”.

He was kind, honest, patient, compassionate, and faithful. Kenneth read his Bible every morning and every evening, and his faith was reflected in the way he lived and treated others. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and could make even the simplest encounter feel meaningful.

Kenneth loved his family deeply. He shared his life with his beloved wife, Martha, whom he called his “Honey,” and their cherished dog, “Baby.” He loved his children, grandchildren, stepchildren, siblings, and extended family. He found joy in the little things, having a plain hamburger with chocolate shake, spending time with those he loved, listening to music, and, later in life, discovering a love for quinceañeras and dancing.

Kenneth leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, humility, and compassion. Through the way he lived his life, he taught us that sometimes the greatest thing we can do is simply be there for someone, help when we can, and always go the extra mile.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Hardiman and Mansfield Coleman; his son, Larry Coleman; and his brother, Curtis Harris.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha Romero-Coleman; his children Cheril West Coleman, Quinton Coleman, Eric Coleman, Danaen Coleman, and Dominique Washington; his sisters Gertie Mae Hanes and Kathryn Williams; and his grandchildren, stepchildren, extended family, and many friends who were blessed to know and love him.
