Ken started life in St. Louis, MO., moving to the Kansas City area when he was 3 and lived in and around the area his entire life.
Mr. Shields was a 1958 graduate of Center High School, where he played basketball and football. He was a Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Canberra (a guided missile cruiser). He was stationed with the 7th Fleet in Norfolk, Virginia before being transferred to the 6th Fleet in San Diego, CA.
Mr. Shields was the President of MTS Trucking which he started in 1992. He was active in the business before his death. He was involved with the transportation industry for most of his working career.
Mr. Shields, along with his family, enjoyed many years of enjoyment at The Lake of The Ozarks, finally trading it all in for a home in Sun City West, AZ.
Mr. Shields is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marci of the home, his children, Keven and Robyn Shields of Overland Park, Marty Shields-Postlethwait of Overland Park; his Grandchildren, Melissa and (Brian) Hockett of Illinois, Mallory and (Tim) Smith of Gardner, Miles and (Jessica) Postlethwait of Olathe, and Kerby Taylor Shields of Overland Park. Also surviving are his great-granddaughters, Macie, and Blakely Hockett, Mackenzie, Mayva, Maddelyn Smith, and Raylynne Mae Postlethwait. In addition, Mr. Shields leaves many family and friends. The family would like to expressly thank Dr. Mark Hamblin and his staff for the love and care shown to Ken; along with the excellent hospice care from K.C. Hospice.
A Visitation will take place from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on Saturday, April 24 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
