Kon was born November 10, 1950 in McCook, Nebraska (near his hometown of Hayes Center) and passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2024 in Overland Park, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Gail Stansbarger; daughter, Katherine (Todd) Braddy, grandchildren Claire and Colin; Patricia Williams Glee, mother of his daughter; siblings Lyle Glee, Sheryl Munson, Sharron Radar; sister-in-law Pam Courson and brother-in-law Ken Courson; cousins Terry and Barbara Gates and David Freeman; along with extended family and a community of friends in Overland Park and Hayes Center.
He was a multi-sport athlete at Hayes Center High School. He graduated from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Structural Engineering and received his Master’s Degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was employed with the power division of Black & Veatch, where he designed power plants both domestically and internationally. While there, he and Gail moved to Indonesia for over a year. He later joined the power division with Burns & McDonnell where he retired.
Kon was a proud Cornhusker and an avid Chiefs fan. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and enjoyed planning fishing excursions with friends and crappie season at Truman Lake. Kon was an excellent chef and made many memorable feasts for family and friends, particularly on his Weber grill. He was always keen to celebrate special occasions, occasionally with a celebratory cigar.
He was preceded in death by his parents Art and Geraldine Glee; siblings Darlene Busher, Verl Glee, Phyllis Sexton, and mother in law Gloria Stansbarger-Shy.
