Larry was born in Sedalia, MO and graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City. After receiving his Electrical Engineering degree from General Motors Institute, Larry invested 36 years at General Motors serving in a variety of roles from Maintenance Supervisor to Director of Engineering to Plant Manager. He possessed a rare ability to authentically connect with everyone in every department, from the plant floor to the executive boardroom. He earned the respect and admiration of countless co-workers and leaders alike.
In addition to his 36-year career in the automotive industry, LB also invested decades of his life serving organizations that he believed could benefit from his gifts and experiences and aligned with his character and values. He believed strongly in sharing God-given gifts and living a selfless life in the service of others. Larry served as a leader of Boy Scout troop 269 for 12 years, led construction on mission and service trips for 10 years, was appointed and served several terms on the Missouri Supreme Court Disciplinary Panel, served as Vice President of his HOA for 16 years, and rescued, preserved and serviced collectible pinball machines and jukeboxes as the “Pinball Wizard” of Kansas City for more than 40 years.
Larry was a smitten husband and best friend to Donna Lee Dishman (Donnie) for 56 years, together for a total 63 years. Dad was a proud and influential father to Scott (and Leslie, Prairie Village, KS) and Steve (and Ashley, Fayetteville, AR). Papa B was a loving and adoring grandpa to Kennedy, Anna, Brooke, Mitchell and Cooper. Larry was preceded in death by his father, G.E. Blair, his mother, Fanny Alice Blair, his brothers, Freddie Blair and Ronnie Blair, and sister Carol Young. He is survived by his loving wife, Donnie, and sister Mary Killian.
A celebration of life is planned for Friday September 17, 2021, 2:00 PM at The Summit Church (3381 NW Chipman Rd, Lee's Summit, MO). In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to The Summit Church and challenging every one of us to find a way to serve others using the unique gifts that God has provided.
For those that are able to join us tomorrow at 2pm at The Summit Church, we are looking forward to celebrating Dad’s life with you. The church is requesting that masks are worn, and there will be plenty of seating to ensure the opportunity to maintain safe distancing.
For those family and friends from out of town, or who are unable or uncomfortable gathering in person, the service will be shared via Zoom using the following link:
