Larry Turner

He departed this earthly life February 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by two brothers Henry Turner and Walter Lamar Turner; three sisters Sadie Bell McClusky, Gladys Louise Turner and Rosalyn Turner. As a young man Larry joined St. John Baptist Church where he was an active member until relocating to Atlanta, Georgia and then on to Kansas City, Missouri.

Larry was a member of the first graduating class at E. E. Butler High School in 1963. As a class project Larry was introduced to the Wall Street Journal. He could be seen around town with the Journal tucked under his arm. Larry was an active member of the Boy Scouts. He loved sports. He played defensive end and center for Fair Street School and later E. E. Butler High School football team. He served as Co-Captain of the football team and he played basketball. After moving to Kansas City, MO, Larry became an avid golfer.

Larry enjoyed returning home to Gainesville to attend the Fair Street Butler High School Reunions and journeying to the Tanner, Young and Yarbough Family reunions. Larry and Karole were happy to host out of the two hundred plus Tanner, Young and Yarbough Family Reunions twice.

After working in the hospitality business for many years with the Allis Plaza Hotel and The Ritz Carlton Hotel. Larry joined the team at Burlington Northern Railroad. This job allowed him to do his favorite thing, “travel”. He loved talking about the places he visited, having visited almost every state. Larry had a profound love for the Gainesville community. Any time someone from Georgia visited Kansas City his doors were always open to receive them.

Larry met and married his bride Karole Ann Turner in 1970. They enjoyed fifty-five years of wedded bliss. Larry leaves to continue his legacy his loving wife Karole, his son Jason, daughter in love Kiah Turner Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughters Lyric and Jazlyn Turner both of Atlanta, Georgia. Four brothers, Asberry Turner Duluth, Georgia; Johnny Turner Los Angeles, California; Emory Turner Gainesville, Georgia; Charles (Clara) Turner Gainesville, Georgia and One sister Martha Mays Gainesville, Georgia. One God son Fred Taylor and his wife Linda of Kansas City, MO, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved like family.
