Laura Ann Batenic passed away on August 10, 2017 at her home after a long illness. The fifth child of Patricia and Julius Batenic of Fairway, KS, she was born in Kansas City, MO on September 27, 1956.
She attended and graduated from Bishop Miege High School and UMKC. Laura worked for over 25 years at UMKC School of Biological Science and retired from there in 2012.
She had one daughter, Claire Wahrer of Kansas City, MO who survives. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia and Julius Batenic, and sisters Patricia Roy of Kansas City, MO and Barbara Lowry of Carrollton, TX.
Laura is also survived by her sisters, Debby York of Wichita, KS and Julia Batenic of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Mark Batenic of Southern Shores, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Friday, August 25 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 26 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2 E. 75 St., Kansas City, MO 64114. Interment at Forest Hill/Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association of Kansas City.
