Laural Hobick grew up on a farm in Fithian, Illinois and was the third youngest of eight siblings. He attended a one room school house where he went on to Oakwood High School. There he discovered a love for sports. He received a scholarship to William Jewell College and was a three sport, four year letterman. During his college career he met the love of his life Donna and acquired many close friends. After Laural and Donna married and had two sons, he achieved his master’s degree. The Marine Corps was another life experience where he also played football and attained the rank of first lieutenant. Coaching and teaching was a huge part of his life. The schools he taught and coached at were Oakwood, KOFA, Truman, Midway and Piper High Schools. He achieved two state titles, Coach of the Year, many awards, and was inducted into the William Jewell Hall of Fame. Through his leadership, integrity and dedication he was able to bring out the best in all of his students and athletes.
Visitation will be at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131 Friday, September 22, 2017 from 12-2pm with the funeral service to follow at 2pm.
