

L. R. “Larry” Kirchner, 57, of Kansas City, Missouri died on Sunday, September 1, 2002 at the Baptist Lutheran Medical Center. Cremation will follow a celebration of his life that will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Wentworth Military Academy Honor Guard Association.
Larry was born on September 1, 2002 and was the son of Louis and Alice (Collins) Kirchner. He graduated from Paseo High School and attended Wentworth Military Academy Junior college, where he was a Sergeant Major of the Honor Guard. He was an Eagle Scout. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. After separation from the Air Force, he went into law enforcement, and worked with the DEA in Texas. He was a published author of two true crime books. He was an SCCA racer, history buff and car aficionado. He was instrumental in reactivating “The Silent Drill”, a rifle handling demonstration by the Wentworth Honor Guard Association. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and a half brother. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janet, of the home; three step sons, Colin Pinkman of Lone Jack, Missouri, Cameron Pinkman of Kearney, Missouri and Clayton Pinkman of Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Ann Engel, of Overland Park, Kansas; and 6 half brothers and sisters, including Jim Brantley of Tennessee and Rick Brantley of California; and three granddaughters.
