Lawrence A. “Larry” Zastrow passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at Northcare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on September 30, 1936, to Adolph and Mary (Simmons) Zastrow in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from St. Ceclia High School in Hastings, Nebraska in 1954 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959. He married Clarice J Verkamp on June 3, 1961, at St. Ceclia Catholic Church in Hastings.
Larry worked in the printing business his entire career, beginning with Dutton Lainson in Hastings from 1960 –1969. In 1969 he moved his young family to Kansas City, Missouri where he began working at Farmland Industries until 1985. He retired in 2002 after working for Townsend Communications. He was an avid sports fan and cheered faithfully for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, KC Royals and KC Chiefs.
He is survived by his wife, Clarice, of Kansas City; son, Robert (Cindy) of Smithville MO; daughters, Terri (Tod) Stafford of St Louis, MO and Carol Shaver of Gladstone, MO; grandchildren, Alex Zastrow, Sam Stafford, Olivia Shaver and Joe Shaver; sister-in-law, Marilyn Zastrow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, Magdalene Headly, Mary Terry, AnnaBeth Kassing, and Katherine Cassidy; and 4 brothers, Joseph, Bernard, Richard and Father John.
A Rosary for Lawrence will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at St. Gabriel Archangel Parish, 4737 N. Cleveland Ave, Kansas City, MO 64117. A visitation will follow the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00. A committal service will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 PM the same day. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St Vincent de Paul Society (stgabrielskc.com) or COPD foundation (COPDfoundation.org)
