Leonard was born in Wauneta, Nebraska to Arthur and Carrie Christner. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and his wife of 53 years.
Leonard served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943-1945. He served in Italy, France and Germany. He had many experiences that he would tell with vivid details and recently was chosen to attend Heartland’s Honor flight to Washington, DC this past April. Following the war, he traveled the Midwest, at times with his brother George, building grain elevators before making his home in Independence and working at General Motors, Leeds Plant as a millwright until it closed operations in 1988.
Leonard enjoyed many weekends at the lake fishing, boating and spending time with friends in a house that he built with his brother. He also had a love for music and went dancing many years with his beautiful wife Ada and continued up to three weeks ago at the American legion. He had a love for gardening and always planted flowers every year. He had many friends with whom he enjoyed his daily coffee and walking routine.
Leonard is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephews, nieces, sister-in-law and many extended family members including his best friend, Roger.
Services will be at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Visitation is Thursday, October 3rd, 1:00PM, with services following at 2:00PM. Burial with military honors immediately following.
