October 10, 1922 – July 5, 2018
Leroy (Pete) Peterie, aged 95 years, entered the presence of our Lord on July 5, 2018 after a brief illness. Funeral Service held 11am Monday, July 9th at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel, 11924 E. 47th St., KCMO with visitation beginning one hour prior. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Leroy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lula; his parents, Roy & Stella (Groves) Peterie; sisters, Ilene Lee, Gracie Tomac & Doris Manning; brother Claude Peterie and great grandson, Jake Barnes. He is survived by his daughters, Jane Ratliff, Marcia Lowe (Steve) & Stella Barnes (Charlie); grandsons, Ryan Lowe & Chad Barnes (Shae); granddaughter, Kelsey Lowe; great grandchildren, Angela, Avery, Chad Jr., Dylan & and Zelda; brother, Eldon (Boo) Peterie and a host of other loving family by blood or of heart.
Leroy was born in Laredo, MO. Upon moving to Kansas City, he worked for ADM Milling Company for many years before his retirement in 1984. He served as a Trustee for Grain Millers local 16 and sat on the negotiating team for his Union. After retirement, he formed his own lawn care service, working with lawns and landscaping until the age of 80. He enjoyed the last several years of his life living with his daughter, Stella and son-in-law, Charlie in Cameron, MO. There he spent time fishing, watching the wildlife, tending his roses, and took special joy in watching the hummingbirds that gathered to feed.
Leroy served on the board of Nor Val Ea YMCA, supporting youth swimming during tenure on the board. Many young people passed by his concession stand and talked with Mr. Pete.
The fruits of a life lived walking with God were shining in Leroy's life. He was humble, kind, loving, and very selfless. The many people he touched along the course of his life were enriched by knowing him. Pete did not seek attention for his many acts of charity, instead quietly providing for those in need.
Leroy was a devoted husband, loving father, and a faithful friend. He will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to be a part of his life.
