Linda was born on December 16, 1926, to Everett Elmer Francis and Mary Edna (Fields) Francis. She was the first of three children, born on the family farm in Monroe County, MO.
She graduated from Paris High School in 1945 and soon after graduation moved with the rest of the family, first to St. Louis, MO, and then, to Kansas City, MO, where they settled. She went to work as a school Secretary at the Rock Creek School and became Assistant to the Superintendent. She worked for the School District for more than a decade.
Linda was married to Loren Moberly October 10, 1954. They settled in the Kansas City area, built a home in Independence, and started a family. They had two sons who they raised in that home and where Linda lived until 2019. They also built a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks which would be the site of many happy memories for the family and many members of their extended families for decades.
Linda later worked for Hazelle’s Marionettes for a number of years, then going to work for the Independence Public Schools as Secretary to the Director of the Food Service Division. Linda worked for the Independence School District until her retirement. In retirement, Linda stayed busy with volunteer work. She worked in the Gift Shop at the Bingham Waggoner Home Historic Site in Independence. She also volunteered her time to cook hundreds, if not, thousands of meals at Fairmount Christian Church. She also cooked for the preschool and for special dinners at the First Baptist Church in Independence.
She loved to cook for her friends and family. Her fried chicken and homemade yeast rolls were legendary. For many years she had an impressive garden where she grew a variety of vegetables. There were plenty to be canned, frozen, pickled and shared. She prepared food for numerous family member’s wedding receptions, birthdays and other celebrations.
Linda was a longtime member of Fairmount Christian Church and a member of the Wedding Ring Class. She was always ready to lend a helping hand. Whether it be to church family, work family, or actual family. She cared for her parents as they aged, her husband during his battle with lung cancer, provided childcare, was a talented seamstress, and still found time to participate as a member of the Red Hatters and travel a bit.
Linda battled cancer herself on three occasions, but she was cheerful and uncomplaining and made the best of whatever came her way. She struggled with macular degeneration and the challenge of restricted eyesight that comes with it, and devastating hearing loss. She managed to remain independent into her 90’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loren Moberly; her youngest son, Randall Moberly; Brother, William T. Francis and Sister, Sue South.
Survivors include her oldest son, Kyle Moberly, daughter in law, Tina Moberly, grandson, Anthony Monteleone, granddaughter, Amanda (Chad) Benton and great grandson, George Benton as well as many members of her extended family, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
