

Lionel Gray Turner, Sr., 84, of Leawood, Kansas passed away July 26, 2011. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service and a Royal Order of Jesters Rose Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Private burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Lionel was born April 13, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Samuel L. and Margurite (Gray) Turner. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was baptized in The University Christian Church, Kansas City, Missouri. Lionel primarily worked in the automobile and aircraft business for over 40 years. He was a member of The Scottish Rite; Midian Shrine, Wichita, Kansas; Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, Missouri; The Royal Order of Jesters for over 30 years; Court 376, Wichita, Kansas; and was Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court #54, Kansas City, Missouri. He was Past President of the Wichita Automobile Dealers’ Association; Past member of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), Wichita, Kansas; and member of the American Legion Post #58. Lionel was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He treasured his many friends and always entertained with stories and a joke. He will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Turner; children, L. Gray Turner, Christopher Turner, and Jean Basore and husband William Basore; grandchildren, John Turner, Steven Turner, Matthew and wife Megan Turner, Thomas Basore, Allison and husband Ben Panos, Katherine Turner, Samantha Turner, and Tori Basore; and one great-granddaughter, Lourdes Turner.
