Lloyd Conrad Brandt of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on April 29, 2012. Lloyd was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 24, 1916. He lived in Philadelphia until he was inducted into the U.S. Navy in 1942. Lloyd was stationed at the 4th Naval District Intelligence Office in Philadelphia. His next duty assignment was at the Armed Guard School in Little Creek, Virginia. He served overseas on the island of Okinawa during WWII and was discharged in the spring of 1946. That same year he went to work for Yellow Transit in Kansas City, Missouri. After having met his future bride while they both served in the Navy, Lloyd wed Laura Elizabeth McCulloch of Trimble, Missouri on June 22, 1946. Continuing to work throughout his career in the transportation industry, Lloyd retired as executive vice-president of Yellow Freight System in 1981. During his tenure of thirty-eight years he occupied various positions in the company from cashier to serving on the board of directors. Retirement years were spent in a variety of activities. Playing tennis, a life-sport Lloyd developed during his childhood, was enjoyed during free time. He honed his woodworking skills by crafting pieces of furniture and creating toys for grandchildren. Travel to many foreign countries gave Lloyd and Elizabeth pleasure during these leisure years, and they enjoyed spending their winters in sunny Florida. After the death of Elizabeth, Lloyd continued to live in his own home. He lived an active life that included weekly workouts with his trainer, social outings with his neighbor, weekly Bible study meetings and a dinner group that met monthly. He and granddaughter Stephanie dined regularly together each week and made sure they visited Starbuck’s each Saturday morning. Lloyd resided at Freedom Pointe during the final years of his life. Lloyd was a graduate of Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia. Post high school classes were attended at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and further education was received at the University of Kansas City. He was a member of the Interstate Commerce Practitioners Assoc. He was listed in the 41st edition of Who’s Who in America. Lloyd served as a deacon and elder of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church of Overland Park as well as at Immanuel Presbyterian Church of Kansas City North. He was a member of Village Presbyterian Church. Lloyd is survived by his two daughters, Nancy and husband Jerry Bottiger of Denton, Kansas, Joann and husband Olin Cox of Glidden, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jonathan Bottiger of New York, New York and Stephanie and husband Kole Meyer of Prairie Village, Kansas. Lloyd was a wonderful, Christian man and generous in all aspects of his life. As a truly great American he will be missed by family and friends. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4 at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road.
