

Lorenza Cervantes, 81, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on August 15, 2012 at home after a heroic battle against lymphoma surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on September 5, 1930 in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of Bonifacio Alvarez and Romana Alvarez, she was a true lady and was loved by everyone who met her. Lorenza was a faithful member of Sacred Heart-Guadalupe Parish, where she enjoyed going to weekly mass with her sister. Lorenza was preceded in death by her parents, Bonifacio Alvarez & Romana Alvarez; stepmother, Tomasa Alvarez; and sister, Esperanza Alvarez. Lorenza is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Antonio Cervantes; their 4 sons, Louis (Judy), David, Xavier and Daniel; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ascension Alvarez of Kansas City, MO; 3 brothers, Jesse Alvarez (Zoila) of Fillmore, CA, Gregory Alvarez (Lupe) of San Antonio, TX and Frank Alvarez (Mary) of Chicago, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart-Guadalupe Church, 2544 Madison, Kansas City, MO, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart- Guadalupe Church on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Lorenza will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, 2201 Cleveland, Kansas City, MO.
